
Antonin Dvorak and his African American Student Harry Burleigh
This concert presents compositions of the Czech composer and professor Antonin Dvorak and his African American student Harry Burleigh. Burleigh was a renowned singer, a founding member of ASCAP, and the first composer to create arrangements of spirituals for the concert stage. Music includes Dvorak’s “Dumky” trio and works by Burleigh for violin, piano, and voice. Join soprano Caroline McKenzie (LA Master Chorale), violinist Anges Gottschewski (Long Beach Symphony, Pacific Symphony), cellist Hilary Smith (LA recording artist) and pianist Kevin Fitz-Gerald (International chamber musician, teacher, recording artist).
