Can Your Kid Score $250 in a Local Art Contest?
Students from kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to create art that represents or interprets the theme 'Water is Life.' The contest winner will receive a $250 grand prize.
Budding artists and talented foothill kids are invited to use crayons, markers, pencils, paints pastels, paper or fabric to create a poster promoting stewardship of our water resources.
Foothill Municipal Water District and the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California are sponsoring the "Water is Life" student art contest for children in kindergarten through 12th grade.
Kids from Altadena, La Crescenta and La Cañada Flintridge are eligible to enter the contest before the deadline on May 25.

This is the district’s first time participating in the “Water Is Life” student art contest, which is co-sponsored by Metropolitan Water District, said Daniel Drugan, Education Director at Foothill Municipal Water District.
"We believe that outreach programs such as this competition serve as a fantastic medium to involve the community with the district. Students should emphasize on water stewardship and conservation in their work," Drugan said.

Selected entries will move on to a second round of competition to be included in the Metropolitan Water District's 2013 “Water Is Life” calendar, Drugan said.
Contest Rules: Each student applicant must complete the entry forms here, which includes a teacher sponsor and permission form from parents or guardians. Students must also live within the boundaries of the Foothill Municipal service area (see map in link).
Artwork should display water use or wise water use in or outside the home, school, in different industries, environment, agriculture or recreation. A phrase or message must be written somewhere on the piece but doesn't need to necessarily read "Water is Life." It also must be drawn horizontally.
Artwork must be submitted on a 12-inch by 18-inch white poster board of white drawing paper, with a one-inch border surrounding all four sides of the art piece. Undersized or oversized artwork, as well as artwork without the one-inch border, will not be accepted. Photography or computer generated artwork is also not permitted.

Prizes: The first place winner will receive $250; Second place $150; Third place $75. Two honorable mentions will also receive a prize to be determined. All five winners will advance to the second round of the competition to be included in the 2013 'Water Is Life' Metropolitan Water District Student Artwork Calendar.
Deadline: There are two ways to submit an art piece. Either Entries must be delivered by mail in a flat, sturdy box or package (no tubes or folded entry artwork is accepted) or brought to the .
