Dr. Gerda Govine Ituarte, noted poet, columnist and civic leader, to appear at Altadena Library

Gerda Govine Ituarte. Ed.D has taken on a number of honored roles in her life. Known as a columnist for the Pasadena SVG Journal for her appointment to the Los Angeles County Commission on Women, Gerda is also prominent for her speaking and training activities and consultancy work in litigation and sexual harassment. Recently she co-wrote and co-produced the film "Economic Violence - Life Interrupted: Sexual Harassment and the Downward Spiral of the Working Women."
Another of Gerda’s hats that the public may not be as familiar with is that of poet. Gerda has featured at a number of venues and writes for Frontera Esquina, a poetry magazine published in Mexico. Her Oh, Where is My Candle Hat? is a poetry art book in English and Spanish with translation and artwork by her husband, Luis Ituarte. A special feature includes a CD of poems by poet and artist in both languages. On Thursday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m. she will feature at the Altadena Library event, Three Latina Poets along with Vibiana Aparicio-Chamberlin and Thelma T. Reyna.
Gerda also serves as a consultant for the California Fair Employment and Housing Administration and as CEO of G. Govine Consulting, which provides expert witness, training, consultation and writing and public speaking in the area of human resources, with an emphasis on diversity and inclusion. She was born in the Virgin Islands and lives with her husband in Pasadena and Tijuana. Three Latina Poets is the second of the ALTA-L.A. 3rd Thursday Poetry Series hosted by Linda Dove, the library’s Poet Laureate. This free series is sponsored by the Friends of the Altadena Library. Open mic readers may perform their poems in either Spanish or English. This event is supported by Poets & Writers, Inc. through a grant it has received from the James Irvine Foundation. This event will take place on Thursday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Library Community Room located at 600 E. Mariposa Street, Altadena.
