LA CANADA CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH TO PRESENT

 SPRING CONCERT

The Chancel Choir of La Canada Congregational Church will present “An Afternoon with Franz Schubert” on Sunday, May 19 at 4 PM in the church sanctuary.

The free concert under the direction of Dr. Harold Daugherty, will feature Schubert’s Lieder, movements from the  Trout Quintet, and the Mass in G, accompanied by strings and organ.

Soloists will be April Amante, Christina Thomas, Marco Rodriguez and José Oseguera.  Joseph Klice will accompany on the organ and piano.

A free-will offering to support the church’s concerts will be taken during the program.  A free German inspired dinner will follow in the church’s Fellowship Hall.

The church is located at 1200 Foothill Boulevard in La Canada.

“In the short lifespan of less than 32 years, Schubert was a prolific composer, writing some 600 Lieder, nine symphonies, including the famous Unfinished Symphony, some incidental music and a large body of chamber and solo piano music,” Dr. Daugherty explained. “Schubert’s Mass in G was composed in less than a week.  Today, Schubert is seen as one of the leading exponents of the early romantic era in music and remains one of the most frequently performed composers.
