Fall into Your Own Skin

This has been such an incredible year for women of color in the fashion and beauty industry. We are using our power to speak up for ourselves. We are encouraging other women of color to do the same, and are learning to love our skin, our hair and our beautiful warrior-like features. Rock on! The beautiful Sudanese Runway model and humanitarian Nykhor Paul has certainly set off the alarm and is blazing a powerful trail for black women around the world. She is refusing to apologize for the beautiful hue of her blue black skin and the industry is taking notes! There are way too many options and resources out there now for us to be left hanging. We deserve luxury beauty products too. We deserve the option of choosing from a beautiful lip, cheek, and shadow pallet the colors we love and like. We deserve not to be told “that wont show up right on your skin” “that’s too light” “That’s too dark” “that contrast against your dark skin wont work” Blah! I have heard it all, and it has made me sad, and angry, It made me wonder why some people think I don’t look good with my selections when I know I look pretty good and I feel pretty good too!

I have been on a pretty steady quest to discover some worthy beauty treasures for women of color around the world. This brand is stepping up and we are stepping in. without further ado allow me to introduce you to my favorite brand for the beauty minimalist this fall.

Glossier has been one of my favorite discoveries this year! I tried the Phase 1 set and I was impressed. When the brand first launched, they had only 3 colors: Light, medium and dark, but by mid- August they had launched two more colors in deep, and rich. The perfecting skin tint is actually very sheer. Perfect for a natural glow that will transition your skin from summer to fall. With Just enough pigment and diamond powder to blur any imperfections and leave skin fresh with a natural, healthy, dewy, glow.

My phase 1 set came with three other essential items that will keep your skin healthy and fresh for the fall and into winter! The rose water spray is a soothing face mist, great for a toner, after the gym, or simply to refresh through out the day. The priming moisturizer is a lightweight buildable moisturizer that won’t feel greasy. It also has a decent amount of hyaluronic acid, this form of acid is actually found naturally in our bodies, but as we age we lose it. So by adding it in our skincare it just helps to bind our natural moisture and prevent premature aging caused by environmental pollutants in our ozone layer. Lastly, and my favorite was the “Balm Doctor”. This is a universal skin salve that brings instant softness and hydration. I put this on my cheek- bones, lips and brow bones and it looked like I had contoured my whole face!
