Tour Altadena's Historic Keyes Bungalow

If you've never been inside an Airplane Bungalow before, here's your chance. On August 12^th, from 2 to 4 p.m., the Altadena Historical Society opens the doors to the Keyes Bungalow.

The Keyes Bungalow, built in 1911, is a near perfect example of an airplane bungalow - a complete bungalow home on the bottom floor with an additional room raised above the roof like the cockpit of an airplane. The house was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The event includes a talk by dog historian Jane Brackman on how the Arts and Crafts movement not only influenced out taste in houses, but in canine companions, as well.

Just to whet the appetite, this from Brackman:  "Did you know owning a purebred dog was strictly upper-crust in the Victorian era, but the aesthetic was claimed by the middle class when ready-cut bungalows from companies like Sears meant regular folks could have a single family dwelling, a garden and a purebred family dog?"
