Hungry Bears Prompt Lockdown At Altadena School
A black bear and her cub dropped in on Pasadena Rosebud Academy, prompting a 45-minute lockdown.
ALTADENA, CA — A student at Pasadena Rosebud Academy in Altadena got the scare of his life when he ran into a black bear and her cub wandering the hallway Tuesday morning.
The 8th grader made a beeline for the front office but not before dutifully snapchatting a picture of the bears. The furry visitors triggered a 45-minute lockdown at the school. Students and staff looked on from inside their classrooms as the bears knocked over a trashcan and feasted on leftover school lunches.
“While he was in the trash, the mom just paced back and forth,” Pasadena Rosebud Academy Director Shawn Brumfield told the Pasadena Star-News. “They were very subdued. They weren’t aggressive or anything.”

Sporting a yellow ear tag from state wildlife officials, the momma bear and her cub hopped a fence and fled the scene shortly after the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department arrived to wrangle them, KFI reported.
