San Gabriel Valley area seniors look into the changing future of aging
PASADENA, Calif., May 20, 2013 - Recently, MonteCedro, a new planned Episcopal Communities & Services (ECS) Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) in Altadena, Calif, hosted Dr. David Gobble, Director of Masterpiece Living Academy and Director Emeritus of The Fischer Institute of Wellness & Gerontology, to educate San Gabriel Valley area seniors of the evolving future.
During the event, he spoke to over 100 San Gabriel Valley area seniors about our growing senior population, dubbed the “Silver Tsunami, and how it can directly affect them.
“According to the AARP, by the year 2030, there will be approximately 69 million Americans over the age of 65, which is 20 percent of our total population. With the growing number of “Baby Boomers,” it is important for San Gabriel Valley area seniors and caregivers to understand how this change will impact their future retirement plans,” states Peggy Buchanan, Director of Sales and Marketing at MonteCedro. “As a community dedicated to providing innovative services and programming for older adults, we are anticipating the change in needs and expectations from the “Boomer” population, and are looking to the future by researching and implementing innovative services and programming such as Masterpiece Living.”
During the seminar, Dr. Gobble enlightened attendees about how to prepare for the changes including strategies on how to prepare for a higher quality of life and financial planning for a longer retirement. He also outlined lifestyle priorities that are important to “Boomers,” which include:
Exploring and traveling Learning and being a part of diversity
Enjoying leisurely activities
Living a healthy, fit life
"“Boomers” are the generation of change. They do not want to live like their parents and grandparents; they want to be different. Today’s seniors state that they feel younger than they are, which is due to their active and healthy lifestyle,” states Gobble. “It is important for senior living communities to evolve to meet the needs of this new generation of seniors, and promote successful aging like MonteCedro with the implementation of the Masterpiece Living program.”
Masterpiece Living promotes successful aging through integrating physical, spiritual, intellectual and social aspects of life. Through this whole-person, whole-community lifestyle, it allows seniors to create social connections, one of the most important aspects of aging successfully, and to participate in various health and wellness enrichment courses.
MonteCedro launched its partnership with Masterpiece Living in 2011, and is the only senior-living community in the San Gabriel Valley to adopt its services. Recently, MonteCedro initiated its Masterpiece Monday program to encourage personal growth and sense of community amongst its future residents prior to construction.
