Reward Offered for Altadena Crest Trail Killer

LOS ANGELES, CA -- The Board of Supervisors re-established a $20,000 reward Tuesday in hopes of finding the killer of a man whose body was discovered by two riders on horseback on the Altadena Crest Trail in 2013.

Supervisor Kathryn Barger recommended re-offering the reward, which had expired, in an effort to solve the murder of 26-year-old Marcus Nieto.

Nieto was last seen alive at his home on Feb. 15, 2013. Investigators said he went to visit a friend in Pomona, but might have returned to the Covina/Azusa area at some point. His body was found the next day. At the time of his death, Nieto's family and friends said they are unaware of him being familiar with the Altadena Crest Trail.

The coroner's office ruled the death a homicide, but did not release the cause of death for years due to a security hold on the case. Coroner's records now indicate that Nieto died of "multiple blunt force trauma to head."
