The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department recently revealed that overall crime in patrol areas decreased in 2013 compared to 2012.
The preliminary report outlines decreases in violent crimes by 8.78 percent, decreases in property crimes by 1.93 percent. The statistics translate to a 3.12 decrease in overall crimes, Sheriff's officials said. The data includes year-to-date Dec. 2013 preliminary crime statistics compared to 2012 and to 2008.
