5 Killed on L.A. Roadways on Memorial Day Weekend

In Los Angeles County, there were 196 DUI arrests, down from last year's count of 219.

LOS ANGELES, CA - There were five traffic fatalities on Los Angeles County highways and roads during the first 60 hours of this year's Memorial Day weekend, the California Highway Patrol reported Monday.

The reporting period began at 6:01 p.m. Friday and ended at 6 a.m. today.

During that same period last year, the CHP reported no traffic-related deaths in Los Angeles County.

Statewide, there were 27 traffic-related deaths reported this year, compared with last year's total of 20.

CHP officers also arrested 942 motorists statewide on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, down from last year's total of 1,010.
