Essentials like groceries and prescriptions remain exempt, but residents are warned this five-year increase will add to already high local costs for gas, housing, and everyday goods.
2. Senior housing takes shape at 1150 Colorado Blvd. in Arcadia (urbanize.city) — A new $33 million senior housing complex, The Ivy Arcadia, is rising at 1150 West Colorado Boulevard and will bring 100 assisted living and memory care apartments to the city. With studios to two-bedrooms, some affordable units tied to a city-approved density bonus, and amenities like a fitness center and outdoor spaces, completion is targeted for fall 2027.
3. Prepared Childbirth Class Series (keckmedicine.org) — Expectant parents in Arcadia can sign up now for USC Arcadia Hospital's two-part Prepared Childbirth course, offered in person or virtually this December. For $80 per couple, you'll learn labor signs, when to go to the hospital, pain management options, and postpartum basics, plus receive an "Understanding Birth" guidebook and app access.
4. Pasadena Tournament of Roses® Court Announced (crescentavalleyweekly.com) — An Arcadia High School student, Daniela Guzman, has been selected to serve on the 2027 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Rose Court, bringing local representation to one of the region's most visible traditions. She and six other teens will each receive a $7,500 scholarship, with the Rose Queen coronation set for Oct. 28 at Tournament House.
5. SGV high school football: Previews, predictions for Friday's Week 6 games (sgvtribune.com) — Arcadia football fans can look ahead to Friday night's home matchup against Arroyo, part of a packed Week 6 slate of San Gabriel Valley games. The roundup breaks down key players, recent performances, and predictions for several nearby schools, helping local fans decide which contests to catch and what to expect under the lights.
