City Council Honors Arcadia's Best Foundation

The group was recognized for its efforts in organizing Arcadia's Patriotic Festival.

The Mayor and City Council honored the Arcadia’s Best Foundation and presented them with the “Believe in Arcadia Volunteer Award” for July for their efforts in organizing this year’s . 

Arcadia’s Best Foundation interacts with other community groups to promote Arcadia and organizes many of the events in the city such as the Patriotic Festival which successfully took place downtown on July 2.

Mayor Kovacic presented certificates to founders Carol Libby, Sho Tay, event coordinator Bruce McCallum and volunteers Don Milefchik, Wayne Tay and Bob Green. Co-founder and Patch columnist Scott Hettrick was not in attendance.

“I can think of no better example of the spirit of volunteerism, civic virtue, hard work and risk taking than this month’s recipients,” Kovacic said prior to Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.

The Patriotic Festival was the first of its kind in Arcadia and featured a classic car show, Marine marching band, boy and girl scouts, veterans, Clydesdales team, Rose Queens/Princesses past and present and a plethora of contests, food and fun. There were hundreds of volunteers and many clubs involved in helping organize the event and the honorees greatly emphasized that this was a group effort.

“This is a certificate with my name on it, but there are [many] who deserve it as well,” said McCullum.

A lot of thanks was also given to the Police and Fire Departments who helped make the Patriotic Festival as safe and successful event.

Mayor Kovacic has made volunteerism one of his top focuses of his term.
