Cold Case Murder Suspect Sought In Southern California

Do you know this man? In 2011 a father was murdered in front of his then-7-year-old daughter. Whittier Police are still seeking the suspect.

ARCADIA, CA — A cold case where a father was shot to death in front of his child in Whittier has not been forgotten by that police department.

Whittier police Wednesday circulated a composite drawing of a suspect wanted in the killing of a man who was gunned down more than six years ago in front of his 7-year-old daughter.

Juan Gabriel Ramirez Mendez, 35, was fatally shot on Feb. 26, 2011, at about 8:45 p.m. at the Crestwood Apartments at 8900 block of Painter Ave., said Whittier police Sgt. John Scoggins.

"In the ongoing investigation into the death ... a composite sketch of the shooter has been created with the assistance of eyewitnesses," Scoggins said.

The gunman was described as "fair-skinned," with dark hair, 5-feet-10 inches to 6-feet tall, weighing 170 to 180 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans and a black coat with a hood.
