Denny's Fire Creates Inferno Early Thursday

Late night diners at Denny's Restaurant were inside the restaurant when the fire broke out on Rosemead Ave.

ARCADIA, CA — A two alarm blaze at a local Denny's Restaurant broke out at approximately 3 a.m. Thursday morning with customers still inside.

"The Denny's Restaurant, located on the 5600 block of Rosemead Bouevard, in Temple City, was heavily damaged," Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor, Michael Pittman said. "No customers and no firefighters were injured."

The fire was knocked down after about 40 minutes of aggressive firefighting, county fire Inspector Joey Marron said.

Arson Investigators continue to research the cause of the fire, however the origin of the blaze was in the Denny's Restaurant building's facade, according to preliminary statements from Pittman.

"A cook inside the restaurant, which was open for business, smelled smoke and called authorities," Marron said. All occupants were evacuated safely."

Arriving firefighters saw flames burning through the roof, and the facade of the structure collapsed.

"The firefighters then went into a defensive mode, pouring water on the building from the outside, and they prevented the flames from spreading to the adjacent bank, which was protected by a firewall," Marron said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. The damage to the restaurant was "extensive," but a dollar loss was not immediately available.
