Fire Erupts Through Arcadia Apartments, Thursday

ARCADIA, CA — The roof of an Arcadia apartment building was engulfed in flames Thursday as firefighters responded to the scene. Access issues to the roof made it difficult to fight the apartment fire, according to reporters on scene.
Seven upstairs apartments at the Arcadia apartment complex sustained damage in the three alarm blaze. Seven downstairs units were damaged by smoke and water from fighting the blaze.
Los Angeles County firefighters were sent to the 800 block of Fairview Avenue shortly after 6 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. They were later joined by firefighters from Pasadena, Arcadia, Monrovia and San Gabriel.

Some 40 people who live in 14 now-uninhabitable apartments were displaced and receiving accommodation assistance from the American Red Cross, according to reports from the scene.
Part of the roof collapsed, but no injuries were immediately reported.

Firefighters apparently gained the upper hand on the fire within about 90 minutes, and worked to completely extinguish the flames, still burning strong at 7:45 a.m.
Officials continued working to mop up from the event as of 9:30 a.m., Thursday morning.
As part of the roof collapsed, and firefighters poured water onto the flames from aerial ladders and vented adjacent areas of the roof to keep the fire from spreading to the entire building.
Personnel from the Arcadia, Monrovia, Pasadena, San Gabriel, and county fire departments were sent to the scene.
One firefighter was treated for an unspecified medical problem during the event.
There was no word yet as to the cause of the blaze.
