Geranium Conference 2015

The Geranium Society to host Geranium Conference for Southern and Central California at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garde

Arcadia, CA (January 15, 2015) Geranium enthusiasts from around the state will gather on February 28, 2015 in Ayres Hall at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden for their Annual Geranium Conference. Activities for the day include a private plant sale with invited vendors, featured speakers, opportunity drawing, and lunch.

The Geranium Society is pleased to be presenting two distinguished speakers as part of the Conference:

Robin Parer is an Australian born horticulturist who lectures frequently to garden groups and societies throughout the United States. She has been featured in Horticulture Magazine, Martha Stewart Living magazine, Sunset magazine, The New York Times, House and Garden Magazine as well as having appeared in many other newspaper and magazine articles. She owns and operates Geraniaceae Nursery in Marin County near San Francisco, California, and has collected and propagated over 500 geranium species, selected color forms and hybrids. She also has a large collection of erodium species, scented leaf pelargonium, angel and pansy face pelargonium and rare pelargonium species from southern Africa. She has traveled widely, collecting both in the field, and from nurseries in the U.K., Europe, South America, South Africa and Australasia. Robin is a regular participant in the San Francisco Flower and Garden Show. She has won Best of Show several times for her Marketplace Exhibit, and has also received an Outstanding Marketing Presentation Award. She has also received an Annual Award from The California Horticultural Society for Outstanding and Meritorious Contributions to Horticulture in California.

Tom Glavich is Vice President of CSSA and author of the Beginner’s Guide series of articles in CSSA’s publication, To the Point newsletter. He is one of the co-chairs of the Inter-City Cactus and Succulent Show held each August at the Los Angeles County Arboretum. Tom is active in several Los Angeles area cactus and succulent societies, with his home club being the San Gabriel Valley Cactus and Succulent Society. He has been a member of the Cactus and Succulent Society of America since the early 1980s and has been growing a wide range of plants including succulents, bulbs and bromeliads for more than 30 years. Tom is also an accomplished ceramicist, making custom pots for the plants he grows as well as for general sale to the public.

About the Geranium Society. Geranium Society meetings are a great way to make new friends and learn about Geraniums and Pelargoniums. Members get together to share their knowledge about cultivation, propagation, plant history, and more. Members receive plants at almost every meeting - a wonderful way to add color and diversity to your garden! We meet in the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden, Bamboo Room at 7:30pm on the 3rd Tuesday of each month - except May, July,
and August.
