Half-Ton Of Marijuana Found In Illegal Growhouse

Officers responded to a report of a landlord vs. tenant dispute. What they found inside led to this illegal marijuana growing bust.

Two people were detained at a grow house in El Monte that led police to discover over 500 pounds of illegally grown marijuana, police have said Tuesday.

Nearly 2,700 plants with an estimated street sale value of more than $1 million were found when officers went to the 2600 block of Strozier Avenue about 4:30 p.m. Monday on a report of a landlord-tenant dispute, according to the El Monte Police Department.

"These unregulated illegal marijuana grows are a hazard to our community," El Monte police Chief David Reynoso said. "Our police department has zero tolerance for this type of illegal activity."
