Hugo Reid Students Celebrate Read Across America With Cat in the Hat
Hugo Reid Elementary joins other schools for a week dedicated to reading through the Read Across America literacy program.
Last week celebrated the National Education Association Read Across America program with a week of activities associated with literacy and community service.
Some activities during the week included students and their parents pledging not to watch television for a night and to read instead. Students were also encouraged to bring a can of soda to "pop their top" and read on the playground with their classmates.
In addition, students from Arcadia High School's Senior Men and Women visited classrooms to read their favorite books. Other guest appearances were made by the Cat in the Hat and The Thing 2 who read to students in celebration of Dr. Seuss's 107th birthday.
