Today I am being interviewed for a job. The young woman is asking me questions as she pauses at times and coughs. “I don’t feel well today,” she says, and then exhales as if she is blowing months of tension right on me.
“We create a healing environment,” she says to me before grabbing a tissue. “What made you go into the field of massage therapy?”
“That’s in my first book,” I reply. “It was a very special awakening for me,” she coughs again, no reply, no interest.

“What kind of modalities of massage do you know?” she asks. I hand her my resume.
“Oh, a jack of all trades”, she comments.

“I am a skilled massage therapist,” I say. “I’ve been doing this for eleven years.”
“I’m trying to lose weight,” she blurts out extending her arms out to reveal more of her tattoos. “I’m working so much I don’t have the time for anything.”
Oh, I think to myself, knowing she wouldn’t take interest. I wrote about that in my second or third book, self-imprisonment is very unhealthy.
“Many of our clients request deep tissue massage,” she says to me. “Do you have the energy to do six massages a day?”
“I feel great,” I reply. “Self-care is my priority.”
“We’ll call you, if we decide you are a good fit,” she says using her index finger to rub her nose.
Driving home I look at the gas gauge, that was quite a distance I think to myself. The ad did say, 'Massage Therapist needed in holistic healing environment?'
Indeed, we are all on our own journey, but you can’t go anywhere if you are still asleep. It’s such a beautiful day, I think I’ll jog around the park before I go home.
I wonder if my interviewer would have been interested in hearing about my thoughts on holistic education.
