Los Angeles County Coronavirus Rent Relief Program Launches

In an effort to assist renters with limited means affected by the COVID-19 crisis, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has provided $100 million in CARES Act funds to create a COVID-19 Rent Relief program, operated by the Los Angeles County Development Authority (LACDA). Residents of all cities and unincorporated areas located in Los Angeles County, apart from the City of Los Angeles which operates its own program, are eligible to apply for the funding. The City of Arcadia is partnering with the LACDA to promote and administer this program. The program is accepting applications from Monday, August 17, 2020 to August 31, 2020. Approved applicants are eligible to receive a one-time grant of up to $7,500 - $10,000 for residential rent.

The emergency rental assistance program is intended to meet the needs of low-income renters who have struggled to pay their rent and/or who are behind on paying rent due to the economic impacts caused by the pandemic. The program’s goal is to assist between 8,000 to over 9,000 households. Eligible renters must qualify based on income and have struggled to pay rent, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Their landlord must provide a W-9 and sign a participation agreement in order to have the rent paid on behalf of the tenant. This program will exclude units located in the City of Los Angeles.

A residential tenant must complete an online application at 211la.org/lacounty/rentrelief or by calling 2-1-1, where a representative can assist in completing an online application on the tenant’s behalf.
