Machete-Wielding Man Fatally Shot By Area Police
Police say a man wielding a machete was shot multiple times by Whittier police. Responding officers "were charged at" by the suspect.

ARCADIA, CA —A man allegedly brandishing a machete in a Whittier neighborhood was fatally wounded Wednesday by Whittier police, officials say.
The officer-involved shooting occurred about just before 6:15 a.m. in the 13400 block of Penn Street near Mar Vista. Police say they received calls regarding a man "acting erratically" and armed with a machete, and went to the neighborhood to investigate.
"The man charged at them with (the) machete," sheriff's Lt. Steve Jauch said. "Two officers opened fire on the man. He was struck multiple times."

The suspect, who was in his 30s, died at a hospital, according to the coroner's office. His name was withheld pending notification of his relatives.
Sheriff's homicide detectives were sent to assist Whittier police in the investigation.
