Sonia Desormeaux Fundraiser Is Sunday

Event at FrontRunner restaurant at Santa Anita will benefit Eye On Jacob Foundation, which benefits the fight against Usher Syndrome.

Sonia Desormeaux has been working tirelessly for years in raising money to fight Usher Syndrome, a rare disease that causes degenerative hearing and vision loss.

Sonia’s 13-year-old son, Jacob, suffers from the disease, prompting her to found the Eye On Jacob Foundation to help raise money for the cause.

She puts on an annual fundraiser and this year’s will be Sunday from 7 p.m. to midnight at the FrontRunner restaurant at the . There will be dinner, live music, dancing auctions and a raffle drawing.

The special guest speaker will be Dr. William Kimberling, director of the center for the study and treatment of Usher Syndrome at the Carver School of Medicine at the University of Iowa and Boys Town National Research Hospital.

Sonia happily reports that Jacob is doing well and has not any decrease in his sight in the past six months. But Sonia is not letting up in her fight.

“Funding research of Usher Syndrome would cure so many other diseases,” she said. “There is little being done even though if a cure for Usher Syndrome could be found it would literally change the lives of millions of people.”

Hall of Fame trainer Jack Van Berg will serve as the auctioneer and actor John D’Aquino will serve as master of ceremonies. Tickets start at $250, and include a $150 raffle ticket.
