Arcadia, CA--Did you know more fires are reported on Fourth of July than any other day of the year?

If you’re planning to light fireworks, then this friendly reminder from Temple City.

"Temple City will only permit the use of legal fireworks on Monday, July 4 between the hours of noon and 10 p.m.," the city said in a recent release.

Legal fireworks are those that don’t fly or explode, and are commonly known as “safe and sane” fireworks.

How can you confirm if you have legal fireworks? Check for the “safe and sane” logo. If you don’t see the logo, the fireworks are illegal and can pose real threats to people and property.

Examples of illegal fireworks include: sky rockets, bottle rockets, firecrackers, and roman candles.

Increased police patrols across the southland cities search for illegal firework use on July 4th.

"Don’t risk getting fined for violations that range from $250 to $5,000," Temple City stated. "Please report illegal activity to Temple Sheriff’s Station by calling (626) 285-7171."

TIPS ON SAFETY:

  • Check the directions on your fireworks before lighting them.
  • Never relight a firework that has gone out.
  • Keep water nearby.
  • Be responsible.
