A woman was found dead inside a vehicle on the I-10 and Valley in El Monte, Tuesday, CHP closing the eastbound freeway for over 7 hours.

ARCADIA, CA — A woman was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head on Tuesday morning, on the eastbound San Bernardino I-10 Freeway in El Monte. That stretch of freeway was closed for more than seven hours Tuesday while authorities investigated the possible gunshot death of a woman found in a car parked on the shoulder. As of 1 p.m. those lanes were reopened to drivers in that area.
The I-10 San Bernardino Freeway was at a complete shut down from 4:30 a.m. until all lanes reopened at just after 1 p.m. according to CHP. Traffic was diverted off of the freeway at Peck Road in El Monte, but freeways were at a standstill the majority of the day.
According to the preliminary investigation, a tow truck driver saw 2011 white Chevy Malibu stopped on the right shoulder at approximately 4 a.m. and stopped to render aid, said CHP Officer Peter Nicholson. The driver then saw a woman unresponsive in the vehicle and called 911, and the woman, in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene, Nicholson said.
