Shoppers at in got a surprise dose of holiday spirit Saturday when a flash mob organized by the Los Angeles Master Chorale broke out with an impromptu rendition of "Hallelujah."

Reports put 300 members of the L.A. Master Chorale at the scene.

The term flash mob refers to a large group of people who assemble in a public place to perform an unusual act.

Flash mobs are a growing phenomenon. An episode of Modern Family recently had a main plotline featuring a flash mob performance and just last night in Northern California, a flash mob of thousands caused a mall to be evacuated.
