BALDWIN PARK, CA — Baldwin Park officials reminded residents on Monday about the upcoming Measure CR election, a bill that would reform cannabis business taxes for non-retail businesses.
The city said Measure CR "spending would be subject to state transparency, public disclosure and accountability requirements. Expenditures would be subject to required independent annual audits to help track how local funds are used."
On June 15, the City Council voted unanimously to place Measure CR, formally known as the "Good Government Cannabis Reform Measure," on the Nov. 3 election ballot.
If Measure CR is approved by Baldwin Park voters, the 4% tax rate currently levied on retail cannabis businesses will apply to non-retail cannabis businesses also, city officials said.
City officials emphasized Measure CR is not a tax on local residents or homeowners. In addition, revenue generated from Measure CR is only controlled by the municipal government.
"Every dollar would remain in Baldwin Park to support the core services residents rely on such as removing trash, litter and graffiti; maintaining streets, public infrastructure, parks, and community facilities; and providing youth after-school and employment programs," Chief Executive Officer Manuel Carrillo, Jr. said in a statement.
