UPDATED: Armed Robber, Killer of Quiznos Shop Owner at Large
The restaurant owner died at the hospital, hours after the shooting in the northeast Los Angeles County community of San Dimas.

The armed robber who fatally shot the owner of a sandwich shop in San Dimas was still at large Wednesday afternoon, sheriff’s officials said.
Pravin Patel, 62, was robbed about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 2 at his Quiznos shop at 1034 Arrow Highway; he gave the armed man an undisclosed amount of cash in a bag.
However, Patel following the robber outside and a struggle ensued, resulting in Patel being shot, officials said.

He died about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said.

A search was underway Wednesday for a robber who fatally shot the 63-year-old owner of a Quiznos Sub shop in San Dimas, authorities said. Deputies were called about 3:20 p.m. Tuesday to 1034 W. Arrow Highway, where they found the restaurant proprietor suffering from a gunshot to the torso, according to the sheriff’s department.
The suspect had approached the cashier’s counter brandishing a semi- automatic handgun and demanding money, according to the department. The owner gave him a bag containing an undisclosed amount of cash, but then followed the robber outside, where a brief struggle ensued.
The victim was hospitalized and died about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday. The robber was a man in his late 20s, white or light-skinned Latino, about 6 feet and 175 pounds. He was wearing a black cap, black shirt and dark short pants with a plaid pattern.
San Dimas is generally a low-crime area. Anyone with information on the robbery and slaying was urged to call the sheriff’s homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500 or, to provide information anonymously, Crime Stoppers at (800) 222- TIPS.
