UPDATE: Baldwin Park Student Arrested for Bringing Ammunition to School

School police received an anonymous tip that a boy had brought a gun onto the school grounds but there were no weapons located on campus.

A 15-year-old student at Baldwin Park High School was arrested today after campus police, acting on a tip, searched his home and found a 40-caliber handgun, a school district official said.

During the noon hour, school police received an anonymous tip that a boy had brought a gun onto the school grounds, according to a statement issued by Baldwin Park Unified School District Superintendent Mark M. Skvarna.

They located the student, determined he did not have a gun at school and received consent to search his home, where the handgun, with a magazine containing 10 rounds of ammunition, was located, Skvarna said.

"We would like to emphasize that there were no weapons located on school grounds,'' the statement says.

"We understand that in light of recent situations, safety is of utmost importance to everyone. BPUSD will take additional measures to ensure the safety of all students and staff.''

The boy's name was withheld because of his age.
