Banning Resident Fatally Stabbed in Nearby Azusa

The stabbing victim was one of two injured in what may have been a street fight, authorities said.

One man was stabbed to death and another man is expected to survive his knife wounds from a street fight in Azusa, a police sergeant said.

Police dispatched at 3 a.m. Sunday July 21 to the 300 block of South Vernon Avenue found a 36-year-old man laying on the sidewalk suffering from several stab wounds, said Azusa police Sgt. Andy Sutcliffe.

Paramedics rushed the resident of Banning to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, Sutcliffe said.

A friend transported the second victim to an area hospital, where he was treated for multiple stab wounds to the upper body. He is expected to survive his injuries.

Azusa police asked anyone who saw the street fight to call them at (626) 812-3200.
