Baldwin Park Football Loses League Opener, Fifth in a Row in 38-19 Loss

BALDWIN PARK – The visiting Nogales Nobles scored three times in the fourth quarter to outlast the Baldwin Park Braves 38-19 Friday night in the Valle Vista League opener for both teams who entered with identical 0-4 records.

The loss keeps the Braves winless in the young season.

Despite the loss, Baldwin Park quarterback Michael Moran had a big day, going 20 of 35 for 245 yards with a touchdown but he was also intercepted four times. Albert Santos led the ground attack for the Braves by rushing for 44 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Niko Carravantes also scored a rushing touchdown.

Trailing 13-0 heading into the second quarter, Moran would find Alexis Baron in the corner of the end zone with a scoring pass to closevthe gap to 13-7.  Baldwin Park would thenvkeep Nogales scoreless in the third quarter to score twice to tie the scorev19-19 heading into the final stanza.

Baldwin Park drove down the field on its first possession in the second half, culminating in a 2-yard run up the middle by Carravantes.  After forcing Nogales to turn the ball over on downs, the Braves would strike again, this time on a 1-yard touchdown run by .Santos.

Ayala found Terrance Manderville up the middle with a scoring pass which
covered all of 77 yards.  Ayala would then take the ball himself on the following series and score on another 70 yard run along the sideline.  Antoise Fields
added a 1-yard run up the middle to secure the victory for Nogales.

Baldwin Park (0-5, 0-1) faces perennial league forerunner
San Dimas next week.  Kickoff is at 7pm
