City Approves Changes to Housing Element

The Baldwin Park City Council approved an update to the City's housing element to the General Plan at the Oct. 2 City Council meeting.

The updated plan is a modification to the existing 2008-2014 Housing Element adopted in 2012, which addresses comments and concerns from the California Department of Housing and Community Development and new state legislation.

The Housing Element is required by state law to be incorporated in a city's General Plan. The Housing Element specifies how housing needs of current and future residents can be met.

The HCD submitted a letter to the city in April stating that the Draft Housing Element met the statutory requirement of the State housing element law.

Several organizations, the Public Utilities Commission, Native American Heritage Commission and the County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles, all submitted comments and concerns for the city to address in the Housing Element, according to city documents.

The three above issues are being addressed and reportedly have been approved, along with the other updates, by the city attorney.
