Here are five things to start off your day in Baldwin Park:
- Parents looking for an evening event for the kids might want to check out “How Big is Big? How Far is Far?” at the Baldwin Park Library tonight at 6. Science educator Richard Wade is scheduled to “lead a lively talk about sizes and distances of planets in our solar system using a variety of large scale models of the earth, moon, sun, solar system and other stars.” This program is for children ages 5 and older. The park is at 4181 Baldwin Park Blvd.
- In case you missed it, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s are getting a pay increase -- the first general salary increase for that group since August 2008, according to City News Service.
- Waste Management of Southern California is offering a few tips to people taking vacation in the waning weeks of summer. Check out the Baldwin Park Patch story.
- Check out our story on a 20-year-old Covina woman who suffered a permanent brain injury after a crash between a jet ski and a larger boat in Riverside County in 2008. She won $21.7 million in a lawsuit alleging her injuries were due mostly to a steering defect in the smaller craft, according to City News Service.
- There were no tickets sold with all six numbers in tonight's drawing of the multi-state Mega Millions lottery and the estimated jackpot for Friday's drawing will grow to $19 million. However, a winning ticket with five numbers, missing the Mega number, was sold at Norco Fueling and is worth $481,220, a California Lottery official announced. The numbers drawn tonight were 25, 32, 35, 50, 51 and the Mega number was 46. The estimated jackpot was $13 million.
