Luis Flores leads Baldwin Park in 28-23 upset win over San Dimas, Sierra Vista holds off late Azusa push for 20-19 victory

BALDWIN PARK – Luis Flores Accounts for all Braves’ scores and prevented another scoring attempt late in the game as Baldwin Park upsets Valle Vista League frontrunners San Dimas 28-23 Friday evening.
Flores scored twice during a 22-7 run in the fourth quarter as well as knocking away scoring pass attempt in the end zone to preserve the victory for the Braves who improves to 5-4 (2-2 Valle Vista).
He finished with 115 yards on 19 carries and three touchdowns and returned a punt for another score. Jacob Robles went 5 of 9 for 125 yards

The Braves was able to contain the Saints’ Jarell Sykes, who finished with 196 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown, a 56 yard run which briefly gave the Saints a 23-12 lead, but then Flores and company took over.
A blocked punt early in the fourth quarter which set up the second of Flores’ touchdown runs a 4-yard run to close the gap to 23-20. After forcing the Saints to punt, it was Flores who returned the ensuing punt 75 yards for a touchdown, his fourth of the game.

“I have to first say that they are a very good team over there,” Braves head Coach Joe Fuller said. “We have to play a near perfect game. The kids played very good defense and were in the right place at the right time.”
Baldwin Park turned away three fourth down conversion attempts by San Dimas, allowing only a 13 yard touchdown run by Giovan Wike late in the first quarter. Baldwin Park then tied the score 6-6 on the next series on a 22-yard scoring run, Flores’ first of the game.
San Dimas had one final shot with the ball on the 37 on fourth and 13, Saints quarterback Joey Tamayo heaved a desperation pass towards the end zone which was knocked away.
The Braves travel to Covina District next Thursday with a date with League leading Northview (8-1, 4-0 Valle Vista) and sole position of third place. Kickoff is at 7pm.
