A man who attempted to steal a parking enforcement vehicle at a Temple City McDonalds parking lot died today for unknown reasons.

BALDWIN PARK, CA — When a man died while being taken into custody today at a Temple City Mcdonald's restaurant, investigators took over.
A man who allegedly hit a parking enforcement officer on the head, then stole her official vehicle, died today while being taken into custody by deputies at a McDonald's restaurant in the Temple City area, the sheriff's department reported.
The man, who was reportedly a transient in his 30s, died at the eatery in the 6900 block of Rosemead Boulevard about 5:25 a.m. Authorities withheld his name pending notification of his relatives.

"Detectives have learned that a city of Rosemead parking control officer was writing a citation in regards to an illegally parked car in the 8700 block of Garvey Avenue, Rosemead, when the suspect approached the officer, yelled at her, and punched her in the head knocking her to the ground," according to Deputy Mike Barraza of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

"The suspect then entered the city vehicle and fled the location. The owner of the illegally parked vehicle saw the attack and immediately called 911 to report the carjacking."
About 20 minutes after the carjacking, the suspect pulled into the parking lot of the McDonald's, exited the vehicle, walked into the business and began screaming at employees, Barraza said.
Deputies responded to a disturbance call at the restaurant and when they got there, the man lunged at one of them, according to Barraza.
"The suspect's action resulted in a use of force by the deputies in an attempt to restrain the suspect," Barraza said. "The suspect was handcuffed and to prevent him from further kicking, his legs were secured.
"The suspect then became unresponsive and Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel were summoned. Although life saving measures were performed, the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene."
The four deputies involved in the use of force sustained scratches and abrasions and the 53-year-old parking control officer suffered minor head injuries and was treated at a medical center, Barraza said.
