Man Fatally Shot Near Monrovia in Apparent Gang Shooting: Police

Witnesses told authorities that two suspects in a blue sedan drove up to the victim, exited the car and asked him about his gang affiliation

BALDWIN PARK, CA -- A man was fatally shot in Baldwin Park in an apparent gang-related shooting, authorities said Tuesday.

Baldwin Park officers went to the 12900 block of Athol Street at 9:46 p.m. Monday in response to a report of a gunshot and a man down, said Deputy Kelvin Moody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, whose detectives are assisting in the investigation.

Upon their arrival, officers saw the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the upper body, Moody said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told authorities that two assailants in a blue sedan drove up to the victim, exited the car and asked him about his gang affiliation. They then shot the victim, re-entered the car, and fled, Moody said.

"The incident appears to be gang-related," he said.
