Prison for West Covina Man Who Defrauded Pro Golfer

Frank Javier Robledo Jr., 35, pleaded guilty in November to one count each of wire fraud, credit card fraud and aggravated identity theft.

LOS ANGELES, CA - A two-year federal prison term was handed down Monday for a West Covina man who swindled a professional golfer out of more than $200,000.

Francisco "Frank" Javier Robledo Jr., 35, pleaded guilty in November to one count each of wire fraud, credit card fraud and aggravated identity theft in connection with the scheme to swindle LPGA Tour player Maria Hernandez.

The court heard Monday that Robledo has made full restitution -- $240,297.88 -- which has been deposited with the clerk's office. The vast majority of the money will go to Hernandez, prosecutors said.

Robledo, who fashions himself as a sports agent, told Hernandez her money was going to be invested in two companies. Instead, he used the wire transfers to cover personal expenses, according to court documents.

The 30-year-old Hernandez, who hails from Spain and lives in the San Diego area, plays on the LPGA Tour. She also played on the Ladies European Tour, where she won the Slovak Open in 2010.
