Man Sentenced to 30 Years for Killing His Father in Irwindale

Jonathan Pedraza was sentenced for the beating death of his 62-year-old father, whose body was found in a storage locker.

A Hollywood man was sentenced today to 30 years to life in state prison for the beating death of his 62-year-old father, whose body was found in a storage locker in Irwindale.

Jonathan Martin Pedraza, who was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Mike Camacho, of first-degree murder for the Sept. 3, 2010, slaying of his father, Miguel Pedraza.  

The panel found that he had used a dumbbell in the commission of the crime.

Jurors also convicted the 26-year-old man of one felony count of vandalism and two misdemeanor counts of hit-and-run driving.

Pedraza crashed his vehicle through an exit gate at A-1 Mini Storage, where Irwindale police discovered his father's body in a storage unit, authorities said.

Pedraza delivered at least five blows to his father's head, causing 10 lacerations and a fractured skull, according to Deputy District Attorney Stacy Okun-Wiese.  

He was arrested in Baldwin Park after a collision with two vehicles.
