Sierra Vista Boys' Volleyball team Falls to Top-seeded Damien in Division 5 Playoff Opender
Despite keeping the match close in the early part of each set, could not keep up the pressure and falls to top seed 25-19, 25-16, 25-11

LA VERENE – Sierra Vista’s boys’ volleyball team’s dream season came to an abrupt end Tuesday, as it fell to the top seeded Damien Spartans 25-18, 5-16, 25-11 in a CIF Division 5 first round matchup, despite keeping the match close throughout.
The Dons couldn’t stop Damien’s middle Chris Jorrista, who had 15 kills and three blocks, but was able to still keep the match close in the early part of each set, especially with many points accrued through unforced errors by the Spartans.
Rafael Fausto was the defensive force for Sierra Vista, with five blocks and a kill, while Jason To added another block, but it was not enough as Jorrista and the Spartans were too much for the Dons, who advanced to Tuesday night’s match by easily dispatching Pacific Hills 25-7, 25-17, 25-15 in Saturday night’s wildcard match.

The Two teams played to a stalemate in the first set. After a hitting error by Damien’s Michael Spinney even the match at 14-14, the Spartans went on a 7-0 run to widen the gap to 21-14. Jorritsma had three kills and two blocks, as including the set-clinching kill. A Kyle Villamor kill ended the run for the Dons, who picked up three more points via Damien errors before Jorritsma’s set clincher.
The second set would be more of the same, as the Dons would hang around until the power of Damien closed out the set, this time it would be Daniel Enriquez who contributed four aces along with four Jorritsma kills to put the second set away in a 6-0 run.
