Suspected Drunken Driver Dies After Hitting a Tree

A 34-year-old man who had an open container of alcohol in his speeding car was killed when it bottomed out at an dip and smashed into a tree Sunday close to Avocado Heights, just south of Baldwin Park.
California Highway Patrol officers believe Albert Rudy Ochoa was drunk behind the wheel at the crash in front of a La Puente home in the 14100 block of Don Julian Road at about 3:35 a.m., according to CHP reports.
Albert Rudy Ochoa, speeding in a 2007 Chevrolet Impala, bottomed-out his car at the intersection at Don Julian Road and Fifth Avenue. After losing control, the vehicle struck a tree and then came to rest against a utility pole, which was not damaged, the CHP reports said.

Paramedics declared Ochoa, a West Covina resident, dead at the scene at
4:09 a.m. An open container of alcohol was found at the scene of the crash.
