Three BP Students to Get Scholarship from Kaiser Permanente
Awards are based on their commitment to education despite adversity and personal hardships.

Three Baldwin Park High School Students will be recognized Thursday for their academic achievements and will receive the Kaiser Permanente's Jean Marie Carpenter Memorial Award based on their commitment to education despite adversity and personal hardships.
Miriam Moreno from , Julia Preciado from and Lauren Solis from will be among eighteen other California teens from the East San Gabriel Valley.

According to Diana Rivera-Beltran, manager of the Kaiser Permanente Educational Outreach Program, the Jean Marie Carpenter Memorial Award provides financial support to students who have demonstrated a commitment and drive to furthering their education despite the hardships that they have had to endure.
"This award will remind these students that we believe in them. They can achieve all of their dreams by staying focused on their goals," she said. "We hope that this scholarship gives them the encouragement they need to succeed.”

According to Moreno counselor, Miriam has clear educational goals for her future and the desire and ability to make them come true. Her inspiration to get a higher education comes from her son.
Julia Preciado has been diagnosed with a disease called ANCA-Vacuities which attacks her immune system. Julia believes ANCA has made her a better person. She has learned how to persevere and stay focused on her education despite any setbacks life brings.
Coming from a low-income family with constant financial struggles, Lauren Solis has experienced different life challenges. Despite those challenges and because of her parents’ encouragement, Lauren is an AP student and has managed to excel in high school. She has also taken on leadership roles through her participation in the Discipleship Club and Orchestra.
The $1,000 Jean Marie Carpenter Memorial Award from Kaiser Permanente’s Educational Outreach Program in Baldwin Park will be given to students on Thursday, May 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the, located at 14403-b East Pacific Ave., Baldwin Park, Calif. 91706. The keynote speaker will be South El Monte High School’s Assistant Principal of Instruction Gabriel Flores.
