Three Hurt in Major Injury Crash on I-10 Freeway

A Los Angeles man was critically injured today after his stalled vehicle was slammed into by freeway traffic in West Covina.

A Los Angeles man was critically injured Friday after his vehicle stalled in a slow lane of Interstate 10 and was struck by oncoming traffic.

Jeremaih Hamilton, 31, was taken to USC Medical Center on Friday afternoon with major injuries after a collision that snarled westbound traffic for more than an hour, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported 12:01 p.m. on the westbound I-10 east of North Sunset Avenue in West Covina.

CHP officials said Hamilton’s 1995 Toyota Corolla had stalled in the number 5 lane, one of the slow lanes. Behind him, in the number 4 lane, 30-year-old William Sinclair, from West Covina, approached and was merging right into Hamilton’s lane.

Sinclair was traveling between 65 to 70 miles per hour. He was unable to stop in time to avoid the crash and his 2000 Toyota Tundra rear-ended Hamilton’s car, CHP officials said.

Several witnesses reported seeing Samaritans rushing to help the injured following the collision.

Los Angeles County Fire crews had to extricate Hamilton and his passenger, 22-year-old Porsha Funchess, from Fontana, CHP officials said. Funchess was also taken to USC Medical Center for a complaint of chest and back pain.

Sinclair was also treated for chest pains, officials said.

The two right lanes on the I-10 and the Sunset Avenue off ramp were closed for about 45 minutes while fire officials provided medical aid and work crews removed the vehicles and debris from the freeway.
