Walter Galicia Wins 2016 Spirit of Volunteerism Award

City of Industry area (Avocado Heights) resident, Walter Galicia, finance manager for UnitedHealth Group in Cypress, was named a OneOC Spirit of Volunteerism Award winner on April 28, 2016, at a special ceremony at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim.

Walter was recognized for his enthusiastic leadership of a cycling team of about 60 co-workers that over the past few years regularly participates in various local fundraising riding events. Among the organizations and causes supported by the team in 2015: American Diabetes Association, Ride 2 Recovery, Orange County Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Tour of Long Beach.

Walter was commended for his contagious enthusiasm every time he meets or talks with his cyclists, which helps keep them motivated and informed about the causes and campaigns they are riding for. He has parlayed this strong sense of teamwork into the recruitment of the riders for other types of charity events that don’t involve bicycling, such as walks for the American Diabetes Association and American Heart Association.
