Here's a look at what types of businesses, services and offices are closed in observance of the Columbus Day holiday on Monday, Oct. 8.

What's closed on Columbus Day? What's open on Columbus Day?
Baldwin Park City Hall and all city-related government offices are closed in observance of Columbus Day on Monday, Oct. 10. The Baldwin Park Public Library is also closed to the holiday and all ongoing events scheduled to be held at the library are cancelled for the day.
Federal offices and agencies are also closed for the holiday, as are some banks and financial institutions. However, many banks, as well as the stock markets in New York remain open today.

Post offices are closed for Columbus Day and there will be no mail delivery.
Schools are open in the Los Angeles area. State and Los Angeles County offices are also closed.
The California Department of Motor Vehicles Offices will be opened.

Columbus Day remembers Italian explorer Christopher Columbus’ long journey across the Atlantic Ocean to the “New World." The voyage was victorious when land was first spotted on Oct. 12, 1492.
The day is also considered a celebration of Italian heritage, as well as a huge shopping day in the U.S.
President Franklin Delano Roosevelt is responsible for making the holiday a federal one in 1937.
