2-Year-Old IE Boy Killed In Apparent Accidental Shooting: Sheriff

Investigators determined the boy gained access to a firearm hidden between two seat cushions on a couch and shot himself, authorities said.

HIGHLAND, CA — A two-year-old boy has died after he suffered a gunshot wound in an apparent accidental shooting Thursday evening in Highland, authorities said.

Around 5:30 p.m., police responded to a report a toddler was shot at a home on Victoria Street. When deputies arrived, they began performing CPR on the child. Paramedics transported the child to a hospital where he died, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

The boy's mother, 20-year-old Jamaria Cobb, and her boyfriend, 52-year-old Armand Bright, were inside the residence when the shooting occurred, authorities said.

A second child in the home was removed by the Department of Child and Family Services, authorities said.

Cobb and Bright were both arrested for child abuse causing great bodily Injury or death and are in custody at the Central Detention Center on $1,350,000 bail, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
