http://www.thesandwichstoppe.com/ https://www.facebook.com/TheStoppeRocks Local Charm If you live in the Pass area and haven’t tried the Sandwich Stoppe on 6th street you’re missing out. Where the Queen Bean we reviewed last week was urban and trendy, the Sandwich Stoppe is cozy and charming. It’s the kind of local hole-in-the-wall place that you love to visit on your break every day. A great food, great people, first name’s only lunch spot everyone loves. It even comes complete with a cool backstory. While the Sandwich Stoppe is regularly in the news for its great fresh food and friendly atmosphere, I couldn’t find the story of how it started anywhere on the web; a trend we’re not about to ruin. There is a newspaper clipping framed on the wall of the shop, you’ll just have to visit to read the details of this Beaumont success story that’ll warm your heart.
Fresh Ingredients
Because our blog is more about discovery than reviewing food, we’ll leave menu details to the many other sites out there that mention the Sandwich Stoppe (such as
this article on the Banning-Beaumont Patch). We will say we loved the food. The Stoppe is known for its fresh fare, no heat lamps in sight; a reputation we’re pleased to support. Despite making everything fresh for each customer, the wait time wasn’t bad. Of course, we visited during a slower part of the day – we’re not stupid – so that might have impacted our perception; but, we’ve heard similar reports from other guests.
Watch the heat
One major drawback was the heat. We weren’t sure if it was choice or necessity, but the Stoppe didn’t have any air conditioning running when we visited despite the rising summer temperature. Instead, every window in the small seating area was thrown wide open to accommodate the gentle breeze. This wasn’t a deal breaker when we went on May 12 as it wasn’t all that hot yet, but I’d hate to step inside in late July when temperatures frequently head north of the 100 mark. Consider ordering to go on a warmer day.
Local success
The Sandwich Stoppe has been so successful that we’ve picked up reports of a second location opened late last year in downtown Banning; The Haven, using the same name and location as the now defunct Haven Coffee Shop. We’re looking forward to checking it out shortly.
Until next time…
We’ll see you next week when we reveal
fresh local strawberries!
