Abandoned Commercial Building in Banning Torched

The fire is similar to another abandoned commercial building fire in the area on Aug. 2.

About a dozen Riverside County firefighters put out a blaze in an abandoned commercial building in Banning on Monday morning, a fire official said.

The fire was reported in a commercial building at South Fourth and Lincoln streets at 1:47 a.m., said Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman April Newman.

“The first arriving engine company reported a two-story abandoned concrete structure with fire from the east side of the first floor,” Newman said.

The fire was reported out at 2:30 a.m., she said. Firefighters were expected to remain on the scene about an hour making sure all embers were out. No injuries were reported.

The fire is similar to another abandoned commercial building fire in the area on Aug. 2. In the that fire, the damage was contained to the second floor.
