BEAUMONT, CA — Beaumont High School's athletics program is California's first to receive a prestigious national award.
According to the Beaumont Unified School District, the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association recently named BHS a Quality Program Exemplary High School. To qualify, schools must satisfy several metrics and categories, including proven success with policies and practices.
The award will be presented to Athletic Director Jacob Van Hofwegen during a December ceremony in Austin Texas. Van Hofwegen thanked his team for putting in the work and tipped his cap to the former athletic director, who retired last year after 26 years with the school district.
"I'm grateful for the incredible members of the Athletics Department and our coaches for the work they put in to get us to this level," he said. "This also would not have been possible without the foundation that Martin DuSold had laid in his time as the Athletic Director here, and the continued support that he offers."
Beaumont's Athletics Department is home to more than 1,350 student-athletes and over 100 coaches.
