The appointment comes after a national search MSJC conducted with the Association of Community College Trustees.

SAN JACINTO, CA —The Mt. San Jacinto Community College (MSJC) Board of Trustees announced Thursday it has appointed Dr. Tawny Dotson, president of Yuba College, as the district's next superintendent-president, becoming the first woman to hold the post.

Dotson was appointed by the board following a national search MSJC conducted with the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT).

Last year, Dr. Roger W. Schultz, who was appointed to the role in 2008, announced plans to retire in the summer this year after spending 38 years in higher education, including 25 years at MSJC.

"Throughout this process, my guiding philosophy has been evolution, not revolution," said Tom Ashley, president of the MSJC Board of Trustees. "In Dr. Tawny Dotson, we have found the ideal complement to the exceptional legacy built by Dr. Roger Schultz and the entire MSJC community over the past nearly two decades," he added.

"Dr. Dotson brings a distinguished record of leadership within California's community college system and beyond, and we are confident that her vision, expertise, and student-centered approach will elevate the strong foundation already in place to new levels of excellence."

Dotson is expected to start on July 1, pending final contract approval at the board meeting on May 14.
