RivCo Inmate Dies While Receiving Medical Treatment: Sheriff

The man was admitted to a hospital in Moreno Valley for long-term treatment of an existing diagnosed illness in January, authorities said.

RIVERSIDE, CA — A 43-year-old man who was being treated for an unspecified illness died in custody after his health declined, authorities announced Wednesday.

The inmate, whose identity was not released, was admitted to a hospital in Moreno Valley for long-term treatment of an existing diagnosed illness in January, was pronounced dead on Tuesday by physicians, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff's officials said deputies assigned to the Robert Presley Detention Center provided security based on the inmate's custody status, and during treatment of the illness, the inmate's health declined.

Investigators from the Riverside Sheriff's Corrections Central Investigations Unit received notification of the in-custody death and have assumed the investigation.

Sheriff's officials said the inmate's name was being withheld pending notification of relatives.
